CREATING YOUR OWN MOVIE CLIPS WITH MEDIAFACTORY
The following tutorials are interconnected and should be done in sequence. They involve simple steps that will introduce the basic concept of MediaFactory.
Before you begin:
The Video Tracks are the wider tracks found on the upper portion of the Project Window.
The Audio Tracks are the narrower tracks found on the lower portion of the Project window.
The Movie Time Line is found on the very top of the Project Window and is Magenta in color.
Tutorial
Step 1: After you are in MediaFactory, select “New” under the “File” menu. A “Project Settings” window will pop-up. As the default settings are quite standard, we will click “OK” and use it as it is for this project.
Step 2: Save the project as "Test."
Step 3: Go to “Import” under the “File” menu and chose" Movie" to import two movie clips.
Step 4: Go to the “Sample Video Clips” folder and choose “Merry-go-round” and click “Open.” Repeat this process for importing “Pirate Boat.”
Step 5: Once you have imported the clips, you will find them residing in the “Clips” window.
Step 6 Drag the “Merry-go-round” icon from the “Clips” Window to Video Track 0 in the “Project” window. Press the “<--” key on your keyboard, this will ensure that the clip will go to the leftmost of the track.
Step 7: Drag the “Pirate Boat” icon to Video Track 1 in the “Project” window.
Step 8: Make sure the two clips on track 0 and 1 do not overlap completely. Place them on two individual tracks one after the other overlapping slightly.
Step 9: Go to Transition Effects under Window menu. Choose Fan Wipe by dragging the icon from the Transition Effects window to the light blue transition track underneath Video Track 1. Align it with the beginning of the Pirate Boat clip.
Step 10: Once “Fan Wipe” has been dragged to the transition track, double click on it. This will give you the “Transition Settings” window. Scroll to “10” in the “Division” box. Also, select “Fade In.” Click “OK” when done.
Step 11: Go to the “Pirate Boat” clip in the “Project” window and click on it once. You will see a black and white dotted line surrounding it indicating it has been selected. We will be adding a filter effect to this clip. Open the Filters window under the window menu.
Step 12: Double click on the “Flip Vertical” icon.
Step 13: Go to “Import” under “File” menu, chose "Movie" to display a selection dialog box. Double click on "Fun Time" in "Sample audio Clip" Folder to import the audio clip.
Step 14: Once inside MediaFactory, it will reside in the “Clips” window. Drag the speaker icon to Audio Track 0 and press the "<--" key to bring the sound clip to the beginning of track 0. If no audio tracks are on the Project window, then go to File and select "Show AudioTracks."
Step 15: Go to the audio track “Fun Time” and select the track. Place your cursor on the top left corner of this selected track, it will become a “Fade- in” cursor in the shape of an arrow. Click on this “Fade-in” cursor and drag it 1 inch to the right, inside of the audio track. There should now be a red line indicating this section of the audio track has been selected as a “Fade-in” effect.
Step 16: Go to the top right corner of the selected audio track, it will become a “Fade-out” cursor in the form of an arrow. Drag this 1 inch to the left of the audio track. There should now be a blue line across indicating this section of the audio track will have a “Fade-out” effect.
Step 17: Go to the Text window under the Window menu. Click on the “A” icon once.
Step 18: Type in the word “FUN” in the text box. Choose the font “Chicago." Under style, choose Bold.
Step 19: Choose a color for the text in the “Text Color” boxes. In this example, we will choose a gradient fill effect. Double click on the “Top” Text Color box choose bright yellow on the palette and click “OK,” go to the “Bottom” box and double click to choose bright green.
Step 20: For the background color, we will leave both boxes as white.
Step 21: Check Anti-Aliasing for a smoother effect for the fonts. Save this text file as “FUN” by typing “FUN” in the Title box.
Step 22: Now click “OK” and drag the icon of the “FUN” file from the Text window onto Video Track 2. Place it to the extreme left of track 2 by hitting on the "<--" key on the keyboard.
Step 23: Now double click on the text clip in the "Project" window to prompt the Video Clip Setting box. Check "Invisible" on the "Image" section. Click "OK."
Step 24: Place your cursor at the edge of the selected text clip in the “Project” window. It will become a “FlexiTool.” Once it turns into the “FlexiTool,” click on the mouse and drag to extend the text to the end of “Pirate Boat.”
Step 25: Under the Window menu, select Film Editor.
Step 26: Select track 2 in the Film Editor window by hitting on the "Tab" button. Once track 2 is selected it will be highlighted in pink.
Step 27: Click on the Resize button, it is the third button from the top on the left panel in the Film Editor window.
Step 28: Four dots will appear on the four corners of Track 2.
Step 29: Click on any one dot and drag it to resize it. Resize it to half its original size, and drag Track 2 to the center of the window.
Step 30: Go to "Movie Settings" under the "Options" menu to define any special settings for the final building of the movie. Click OK.
